Malaysia — Soundport Project

A 28-minute instrumental journey across Malaysia in one continuous arc, from the shadow-puppet rebab of Kota Bharu to the highland sompoton of Kota Kinabalu. No vocals; pure instrumental storytelling.

Each track is composed from the music of its place: the wayang kulit and banned mak yong theatre of Kota Bharu, dikir barat heartland on the Kelantan coast; the Peranakan dondang sayang and Portuguese-Eurasian strains of Melaka's Straits crossroads; the reverb-rich Orang Ulu sape lute of Kuching, born of the Sarawak rainforest; the Malay, Chinese and Indian traditions colliding into modern fusion in Kuala Lumpur; and the trilingual Hokkien-Tamil-Malay heritage of George Town's old streets.
