Greece — Soundport Project

A 38-minute instrumental journey across Greece — ten cities in one continuous arc, from the smoky midnight rebetiko of Athens to the kalamatiano farewell of Nafplio. No vocals; pure instrumental storytelling.

Each track is composed from the music of its place: the bouzouki and baglamas of Athens, birthplace of rebetiko where all the traditions converge; the Smyrneika and Sephardic ghosts of Thessaloniki, the great refugee music capital; the fierce Cretan lyra of Heraklion, blooded with the spoken mantinades of Mount Ida; the mournful Epirotic clarinet of Ioannina, rising from Pindos mist to wild syrtos with the Roma players; the Italianate philharmonic brass and kantades of Corfu; and the Asia Minor refugee laments of Lesbos, still carrying the memory of Smyrna across the Aegean.
