Ethiopia — Soundport Project

A 39-minute instrumental journey across Ethiopia — eight cities in one continuous arc, from the smoky Ethio-jazz of Addis Ababa to the coffee-ceremony calm of Jimma. No vocals; pure instrumental storytelling.

Each track is composed from the music of its place: the nocturnal Ethio-jazz and azmari-bet soul of Addis Ababa; the rock-hewn Orthodox liturgy of Lalibela, where slowness itself is the identity; the witty, convivial azmari fiddling of castle-city Gondar; the Sufi devotion of walled, eastern Harar; the pastoral lakeside folk of Bahir Dar on the shores of Lake Tana; and the austere, primordial chant-roots of ancient Axum beneath its stelae.
